From Jakarta Book Club: Graphic Novels

Riza, one of the colorists for DC Comics joined our discussion yesterday. “If you’re sure about your ability, just go for it. We work here but the salary is in USD, so it’s good,” he said calmly.

Our next Jakarta Book Club will be held on Sept 12, 11am-2pm. The theme is SCIENCE FICTION and so far Michael Crichton, A.E. van Vogt and George Orwell are already on the reviewer’s list. Can’t wait! Decided to celebrated JBC anniversary nx month when co-host Ollie is joining. If you’re interested to join, just find us on Meetup.com #JBCmeetup

From Jakarta Book Club: July meetup

So happy that we had our most fun #JBCbookclub meetup today!! 10 guys, 5 gals showed up and we chatted about music & culture. This month’s topic definitely attracted different new readers and it has elevated our reading experience. Book reviewing also improve our ability to host and articulate our thoughts. At the end of event, some even left me a message. Building real connection with people is the most rewarding result you can get as a community founder. Expecting more great things to come! – with Ollie and Dinasandika

From Jakarta Book Club: June meetup

Week highlight no. 1: Jakarta Book Club meet up discussing Lifestyle. Glad that the community is steadily growing and thanks to awesome support from GEPI, Kutukutubuku, Ollie and Dina, we can encourage more ppl to read. We played pictionary too. Having foreign friends makes me realize that Indonesian don’t play games that much. Well, I love games. I think it’s the most effective way to de-stress and keep your mind active and young. Next month’s theme: “Music & Culture” – the last Saturday of July. Join us! #JBC #weekend

The Halal Boys Experience (Jakarta)

Weekend highlight no. 2: Night out at Halal Boys, the newest food truck in town (located across Beautika Senayan). He said it is a hipster place. I have to agree. Lol. 55k for gyro over rice, be careful of the sambal. We managed to leave GI (midnite sale) before 8pm and arrived here without getting stuck in traffic. Then we talked for hours while listening to the live music played by the band inside the restaurant next door. Driving back to the central area was not a hassle after 11pm. Thanks Honeycomber for the news. Reminded me of Halal Guys in front of MoMa, but taste-wise it still needs a lot improvement #weekend

My weekend highlights

My highlight of the week: no. 3 – meeting at the city park. The idea sounded weird at first, but it was nice for the soul. Situ Lembang park at menteng is only 1 km away but it’s so quiet and hidden from the tall buildings and car noises. Plus, it has wifi connection. Thanks Nuniek for recommending this place ^^ #weekend

I Can’t Believe My Eyes

My eyes refused to believe this, but there is actually a section for this genre at Kinokuniya PS. I guess this is like a #fiftyshadeseffect or what, I dunno. In manga the genre for gay relationship also occupies one whole shelf (something that I didn’t see in Kinokuniya Singapore, for instance). Parents might not notice it, though. #books
